Where many see hopelessness, she sees hope. Where others see fear and failure, she sees faith. For Stephanie Grimes, life in itself is a precious gift. Having overcome numerous attempts at suicide, depression, low self-esteem and even a brain tumor, Stephanie soon learned that it’s not enough to simply survive. She has to thrive. For herself. For others. For purpose and destiny fulfillment. Suffering in silence for years, after a near-death experience, she made a conscious decision to be a voice for the voiceless—those who have attempted suicide or committed suicide. Offering a platform for hope, healing and wholeness, she has become an advocate for mental health and turning pain into purpose and profit.
As the founder of Hope360, a non-profit organization, Stephanie seeks to shine a light on the ticking time bombs of bullying, suicidal thoughts and low self-esteem. After being admitted to three hospitals, for six times, Stephanie knew that her hope had indeed been restored and come full circle. Thankfully, the 0 in Hope360 represents the number of times she was successful at her attempts to take her own life. Focusing on both the before and after care of suicide, she and the Hope360 staff create safety plans that help gauge their emotions. In addition to sharing her intimate life experiences, Stephanie also hosts workshops for parents, educating them on the signs of suicide and depression, as well as prevention.
In her debut book, Polka Dot Zebra, Stephanie explains how important it is to like who you are and be yourself, no matter what happens in life. Encouraging children to know that they are unique in their own way, she highlights how bullying and self-esteem issues can creep in when we least expect it. In addition to being featured on ABC News, Stephanie also was recognized as one of Michigan’s National Alliance on Mental Illness Honors for her advocacy work. From children’s books and poetry, to trainings for the non-profit and a mental health self-care book, Stephanie is committed to being bold, brave and authentically herself, so that she may empower others to do the same, day in and day out.
